Questionnaire sur la RElation au CORPS (RECORPS)

Taking into account people's relationship with their bodies in their care (RECORPS)

Project overview Today, the relationship with the body is not systematically investigated in clinical practice. The aim of this project was firstly to take stock of the various body-related disorders, to explain them, and to specify how they might be relevant for consideration in the clinical practice of obesity medicine. Three dimensions of body dysperception, including numerous possible disorders, were highlighted: lack of awareness of the reality of one's corpulence, difficulties in identifying hunger and satiety signals, a feeling of insecurity in the face of certain bodily sensations, leading to emotional eating and/or difficulty in practicing physical activity.

This initial work enabled us to put forward the proposal that these disorders should be assessed and taken into account in the care of people suffering from obesity, as well as those of normal weight. To achieve this, we had to reduce the limitations of the tools used to identify body-related disorders. Indeed, these tools do not assess certain dimensions of the relationship to the body, and are proving difficult to use in clinical practice. Moreover, the multiplicity of therapeutic responses (psycho-corporal, psychiatric, educational, etc.) aimed at improving the relationship with the body implies a multi-disciplinary approach that would be facilitated by the use of a common, multi-dimensional scale of the relationship with the body.

In the third phase of the project, a DELPHI (a consensus conference of experts and patients) was held to develop the constructs of a future self-questionnaire designed to assess the body relationship of adults suffering from obesity in clinical practice. The experts were asked to agree on the dimensions and items to be included in the future tool. These dimensions and items came from questionnaires, validated in English or French, pre-selected following a systematic literature review (the subject of a Master's thesis).

A psychometric study was then carried out to validate the RECORPS questionnaire. Finally, a guide to using the questionnaire was drawn up with input from experts and patients. The validated questionnaire is copyright-free. Its user guide, and a tool to help decode the questionnaire, are available in the Resources section on the right of this page.

RECORPS tackles a complex, multi-faceted, individual-dependent phenomenon. Disturbances in the relationship with the body - in terms of exteroceptive, interoceptive and proprioceptive sensitivities - need to be taken into account by the professionals on the multidisciplinary team in the clinical practice of obesity medicine, as they can be factors in the success or failure of the support provided. Taking account of the body as experienced and perceived would support the process of reappropriation by the person of his or her body and its management.

I carry out my research in the field of Public Health in order to evaluate - beyond the effect of physical activity - its feasibility, obstacles and facilitators in the field of health.

Activités récentes : Active lifestyle is a complex health behavior, determined by numerous factors at micro, meso and macro-environmental levels. Our current research aims to increase our knowledge of these factors, and to explain them within ecological models. Thanks to the experience acquired at the Health & Wellness Lab of the University of Calgary (Alberta, Canada) during a CRCT from 2022 to 2023, and building on the results of previous studies, we are in a position to implement projects based on implementation science, with large patient samples, in France. We will then be able to document variables that are unfortunately still under-evaluated in multimodal programs promoting physical activity in secondary and tertiary prevention, such as acceptability, adoption, feasibility, fidelity, safety, reach, sustainability, integration into the care pathway, and cost.
